Keep Moving

Well, the shitty weather got a quick start this year, not just here in Boston, but all across the north. Because of our proximity to the ocean, most snow storms carry with them the threat of ice, since the ocean tends to keep temps moderated right around 32 degrees. And so it was this morning, with the sidewalks showing lots of ice patches. Here's the mistake many pedestrians make. When they get to the ice they slow down. This actually increases the risk of falling. If a foot slips there's no where to go but down. That's why you need to keep momentum on the ice. If you go into a sort of modified skating motion, any slips get incorporated into your forward momentum. Same goes for driving. If you don't keep a good pace, that's when you get stuck.
