Poem: "After Seeing the Radiant Child"

A yin-yang symbol
With dark in light
And light in dark
Encircled by a snake
Swallowing its tail

Cryptic wall scrawls
Koans on concrete
Too much obeisance

Floating in the belly
Of the pregnant mother
Herself surrounded by suitors
Angelic and satanic
Potent and sterile

You the Radiant Child
Expressionist, Innocent
Approximately Primitivist

All softened by
Abstracted outlines
Of clouds and trees
And tsunamis and roses
And black avatars

It all was dreamed into being
Wasn’t it?
Yes, dreamed

Taming dragons that morph
Into house pets
Dogs and cats and turtles
And the names of friends
Lost, present, and yet

The drug made a cocoon
That kept the vampires out
But trapped you inside

Form a luminous
Chorus of singers
Celebrating the music of life
The mystic chords of memory
Float on beautiful clefs
Beneath the alphabet
Of faith and forgiveness

And that was the end
Same old, same old
Taken literally tragically

And love so lovely
As to disappear
Into the skin
