Trump As Chosen One

Nothing causes someone like me more cognitive dissonance than the American Evangelical embrace of Donald Trump as a sort of new King David, the one chosen by God for holy purposes on earth. In Trump's case, the idea is that he has been chosen in order to get enough judges appointed to fully criminalize abortion, to beat back socialist scourges such as universal health care and environmental protection, and, not least, to side with Israel at all costs, so as to usher in the End Times.

Most skeptics simply reject the premise, maintaining either that a) there is no God, or b) if there is, He or She doesn't take sides. But what happens if we accept the premise that God exists and has chosen Trump as his earthly representative? It leaves only one conclusion, which is that God, all powerful though He may be, has really, really lousy judgment.
