Paulo Fresu Plays "When I Fall In Love": The Art of the Ballad

Paolo Fresi is a masterful Italian jazz trumpet player who is little known in the US. Holy cow, what tone! Everything begins and ends with tone, does it not? From an album that is a tribute to Chet Baker, who knew something about tone. Maybe I'm biased toward tone, because when I played trumpet I didn't have monster chops or that impressive of a high note range. But I did have tone. Anyway, perhaps we should add to our list exquisite phrasing, which Paolo displays in abundance. Oh, and then there is sensitivity and soul. Wait and then there is ... I'll stop now. Enjoy.
