I don't think Hank done it this way. Just one of the many, many great tracks on Joe Ely's Honky Tonk Masquerade, a true alt-country landmark recording. Here, Ely sings Jimmie Dale Gilmore's "Tonight I Think I'm Gonna Go Downtown." After the 60s and Kristofferson and Dylan and Parsons et al, a country song could now report to us: "I told my love a thousand times / That I can't say what's on my mind / But she would never see / That this world's just not real to me / And tonight I think I'm gonna go downtown."
