Thanks for giving me a lifeline. Mahldau’s essay reminds me that what I’m feeling is as old as humanity. Imagine the isolation on the tundra, or those who went north and into the teeth of the Ice Age looking for food, or the pioneers who went mad from it. I will be humming Silver Lining all day.
